Charlie Ratchford, Extra Care Development
WWA was appointed as the Client Design Advisor and assisted the Camden Council in delivering this intergenerational extra-care development. WWA Consultant Jean Hanna was the principal and advised the client on the proposed architectural design as well as ensuring it met their brief and delivered the type of extra care accommodation envisioned.
Jean has a wealth of experience, and her expertise with dementia and extra care design within the specialist housing sector ensured the design process was managed successfully from the start of the project. We advised on design matters, procurement, assessment of tender proposals and issues arising during the construction process. This enabled the client to maximise the potential of this brownfield site and assisted the project team in designing a contemporary building imbedded in the community.
The scheme is designed as a community hub for local people and includes 38 extra-care apartments and communal spaces. The development was shortlisted in the ‘Completed Scheme Categories’ for the Housing Design Awards 2022.
